About Me

Hey, my name is Jodie Walker. I am a young, dynamic and passionate multimedia developer/designer born in Australia and currently located in Melbourne. I have been drawing and designing since I could pick up a crayon and I pursued this all throughout school and into University. My passion for coding came during university whilst learning Flash Actionscript, HTML and CSS. I really enjoy the problem solving evolved with code and the joy when everything works the way it should.

My other passion is Ice Hockey. I have been playing since I was 10. I know it sounds weird for an Aussie to be playing ice hockey, but it is by far the best game in the world. It has taken me to Japan, England, Denmark, and Sweden as I have been competing as part of the Australian Women's Team and now I am living in Canada. These experiences have definitely influenced my design.

This Website

This website has been designed in Adobe Illustrator CS4 on a HP Pavilion Laptop running Windows 7 and programmed in Aptana Studio.

I have used a combination of XHTML, CSS and Javascript to develop each page and making sure each is W3C compliant with CSS level 2.1 and XHTML 1.0. The porfolio pages incorporates the use of Shadowbox for image enlargement, Moo.fx a little added animation and all non-web standard fonts have been embeded with Cufon Javascript font replacement.

My website has also been tested for cross-browser compatibitity on both Mac and PC for Safari, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and IE 6,7,8,9.

Background Info

In 2008 I graduated from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia with a Bachelor of Design (Multimedia) after completing an Advance Diploma and Certificate IV of Multimedia also at Swinburne. I have 4 years of study within this area under my belt.

Throughout my studies, I managed to work with some high profile clients such as The Comedy Channel, Save Water Alliance, Vic Urban and VEIL (Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab) to complete several projects ranging from 3D animations, interactive games, websites and informative interactive presentations.

For the past year I have been working in a highly regarded E-Learning company, firstly as a creative developer then being promoted to Flash Developer. This role involved the creation of interactive games and quizzes, video interface development and content management.

I am inspired by clean design with an interesting twist. When I can get my hands on a copy, I read the Web Designer Magazine from the UK as I love the reviews, tutorials and in depth articles about the latest technologies, accessibility issues or latest studios.

Other sites I enjoy visiting for inspiration are CSS Zen Garden, Web Designer Wall, Smashing Magazine, Tizag, Da Font and 52 Weeks of UX. These all have a good range of tutorials, design and ideas. So maybe check them out when you have a spare second and they may inspire you as well.

Outside the realms of the computer, I find inspiration in the weather...such as the brightness of snow, the colours of autumn or a great sunny day. I also love travelling and exploring, whether it be in a city, country, jungle or mountains. There is plenty out there to see. So far I have been to Japan, England, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands and the USA. As I was born in Australia, I have also done extensive travel around that mighty country.
